How Pad Printing Works on Glass

The process runs in four repeatable steps:

  1. Ink fill: Ink is flooded over the etched cliche plate; a doctor blade sweeps excess away, leaving ink only in the recessed artwork area.
  2. Pad pick-up: A silicone pad descends onto the cliche, lifts the tacky ink layer, and carries it upward.
  3. Transfer: The pad presses against the glass surface. As it deforms, the ink migrates from pad to glass in perfect register, even across compound curves.
  4. Cure: UV or heat cure locks the ink to the glass surface. On cosmetic glass, UV-cured inks are standard for chemical resistance against alcohol, fragrance, and cleaning agents.
